The website at long last received a little sprucing up . . . do you see one of your favorite little ones there? Click the darling baby below to visit!
My favorite is the new "then and now" gallery. :)

Has it really been more than three weeks since I've blogged? If that's not a sign of the busy fall/holiday portrait rush, then I don't know what is!
The studio will be closing for the holidays from tomorrow through January 3rd. For those super-organized moms-to-be who booked their newborn sessions for December, I will see you soon! All other e-mails and calls will be returned beginning on the 3rd.
I have so many new sessions to blog and all winter to catch up, so for now I'll simply wish everyone a beautiful holiday season with the ones you love. Enjoy every moment!
xoxo
Joyce

While I was away this August, the hard copy of Professional Photographer magazine with my article on newborn safety arrived and I just realized that I never shared it here. I especially wanted to show the pages with my adorable clients . . . this is for you, M. and R. families!

the latest night at PHL to the loveliest flat in Kensington . . . a little bit of country in the city.

a trip on the London Eye . . . that's Buckingham Palace amidst the greenery (and yes, we took "Flat Buttercup" many places and will compile a small storybook of the adventures of a would-be royal corgi in London) : )

vacation means going to the museum . . . and unexpectedly splashing in the wading pool for two hours
and a visit to Kensington Palace

As we will be away for her actual birthday, we had an early party at the movies a few weeks ago for my daughter . . . replete with "popcorn" cupcakes that were actually marshmallows!
I love you, my sweet M. Enough to paint marshmallows yellow with a brush and much, much more.

I'm so excited to have an article in this month's Professional Photographer magazine. I had to peruse the digital edition today as I'm sure I'll be wandering the streets of London when my hard copy arrives in the mail. And random bonus? One of my favorite photographers and friends is also in this issue, and what should grace the cover but my own mother's favorite dog breed? Kismet!
I'm looking forward as well to teaching tomorrow's PPA webinar at 2pm EST. See you then!

Is it really time to think about fall sessions already? The answer, quite surprisingly, is yes! It has been a busy year so far (I have never, ever had so many newborns on the schedule--it has been lovely!) and, as always, fall is the most hectic time of year for most of us. It's hard to imagine, in the midst of days spent languishing at the shore and summer camp fun, that we'll soon be searching for the perfect holiday gifts and admiring the foliage. As I booked a session for September 17th (!) this week I realized that I should send a newsletter to all clients before time gets away from us. I wanted to add a reminder here on the blog as well. Signature session weekend dates for the remainder of 2011 are as follows: this Saturday, June 25th (a last-minute opening due to a reschedule) Saturday, September 24th Saturday, October 1st pending Saturday, October 29th pending Saturday, November 5th Saturday, November 12th pending Saturday, November 19th In addition to these remaining dates, I'll also have signature session openings on select weekdays as well as periodic simplicity sessions. There are a few weekday signature openings in July as well, including very early morning or early evening sunset sessions. |
Holiday mini-session info! I am happy to announce the return of the ever-popular holiday mini-sessions! These sessions will be organized in a slightly different fashion this year but the end result, of course, will be the same perfect gifts and cards. Holiday mini-sessions will take place on various weekdays between mid-September and early October. 10am indoor only mini-sessions will be available at the Wayne studio while "perfect sunrise and sunset light" outdoor park sessions will be available in Bryn Mawr at 8am and one hour before sunset (which will vary from 5:30-6pm start depending on the day and week). Holiday mini-sessions entail an investment of $550--$275 due at the time of booking, $275 due when the image gallery is ready for viewing. This investment includes 20 minutes of shooting time with Joyce as well as your five favorite images as printed 5x7s and one 11x14 wall portrait. In addition, holiday or new year's cards will be available through Minted.com. After your mini-session, you'll be shown a minimum of 8-10 images in a private online gallery and will work with Joyce to finalize your order and, if you would like, create your cards. A mini-session is for you if you've recently had a session with Joyce but would love new images for your holiday cards or to mark a milestone, but aren't quite ready for a second full custom session yet. Or perhaps you've been meaning to try a Joyce Smith Photography session but just haven't gotten around to it. Or maybe you're a friend of a client who wants to get a small taste of what it's all about. Or maybe you just want a few gorgeous fall images of your family! While our mini-sessions cannot compare to the completely custom experience of a signature session, they are perfect for any of these situations. These limited availability sessions will fill very quickly--many were filled after the client newsletter went out this week. To discuss available dates and hold your spot contact Joyce. |
Thank you all for the most wonderful year yet!

Isn't it lovely to gaze at artwork on the wall and find the people you adore most in the world? While botanical illustrations can be quite nice, I dare say they do not trump these smiling faces (and puppy paws :)). For those moments you'd prefer to keep tucked away, a beautiful matted fine art box is perfection.
If you'd like your Joyce Smith Photography wall portraits featured on the blog, please send me an e-mail with your images. As you can see, iPhone snaps are okay! :)

I have always maintained that website portfolios should be updated, at a minimum, every three months. As I liked to laughingly tell my workshop attendees, however, this is a case of "do as I say, not as I do!" While I kept up with my quarterly updates for years, 2010 got away from me and, when I updated the site last night, I realized that it had indeed been 9 months since the last refreshing. Mea culpa!
View the shiny new images and offerings at the site and, for those photographers reading, update your own galleries!!
